Research

This laboratory focuses on applied research in information and communication technologies (ICTs) and assesses the impact of the technologies on business.

Newly developed ICTs can make it feasible to use information that has not been available or has been too expensive to use. Intuitively we understand the value of the information and the technologies that enable the information, but companies will not use the technologies unless the value of them becomes “visible.”

However, without actually implementing the technologies, we cannot utilize the information captured by the technologies. This is what is called chicken and egg situation. To break this situation, our laboratory tries to quantify and visualize the value of the business process enabled by ICTs.

The ICTs that are commonly studied in this laboratory are ubiquitous computing technologies, such as radio frequency identification (RFID) and sensor network. The target business process of our research is logistics and marketing.
